Entertainment for the event will feature much-loved iconic 80s Melbourne band Blue Ruin have been enticed to come out of retirement to perform a set at the end of the match. Other bands performing are Melbourne indie-pop band Boomgates (featuring members from Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Dick Diver, and The Twerps) and all-girl Melbourne rock outfit Bunny Monroe.

For the record, last year The Rockdogs, comprising of members of the Melbourne music fraternity won after a resounding 35 point victory against community radio personnel Triple R 102.7FM and PBS 106.7FM Megahertz.

So the info you need for tomorrow from Lou is:

Having officially entered 2012 Reclink Community Cup Week and with the final training session over, Melbourne has taken on a buzz of excitement prior to the big match this Sunday 24th June at Elsternwick Park which will see The Rockdogs and Triple R 102.7FM / PBS 106.7FM Mega¬hertz fight it out to see who will take home the 2012 Cup.

Local Melbourne outfit Drunk Mums will be opening the day as the SYN Free Kick competition winners, playing alongside Bunny Monroe. Performing the National Anthem will be the one and only Jon Von Goes in laconic spoken word style (no doubt channeling a John Laws album), Boomgates will be hitting the stage at half time, and Blue Ruin and special guests Mick Harvey, JP Shilo and Wally Meanie will be providing the post match entertainment with what will no doubt be a killer set. All bands will be performing at least one song by The Cramps in keeping with this year’s theme Can The Mega’s Do The Dogs?

As in past years SBS TV’s Brian Nankervis from Rockwiz and Dino Marnika, will be overseeing the game as the umpires on the field.

Some final housekeeping to remember :

• $10 Entry For Adults, Kids Under 16 is $5
• Gates open at 12noon, Bounce at 2pm
• For those who can’t make it, donations can be made online at www.communitycup.org.au/melbourne/donate

“It’s great to have the Reclink Community Cup back for it’s fourth year here in Bayside. It’s a fantastic way to cel¬ebrate a fun filled footy clash between the Rockdogs and the Megahertz whilst having the opportunity to be enter¬tained by some of the greats of Melbourne’s live music scene. This event cannot take place without the good management of Reclink Australia and the amazing work they do in providing help to disadvantaged members of our community. I’m really looking forward to being a part of this worthy fund-raiser and congratulate them on the $120,000 raised last year”..”
– Bayside City Council Mayor, Louise Cooper-Shaw
