Red Hot Chili Peppers have released ‘Go Robot’, a completely whacky new video from ‘The Getaway’ for their fans through Facebook.
The video features Anthony Kiedis painted white, mostly naked and wearing a bowler hat casually strolling through the streets of New York. The video replicates scenes from John Travolta’s classic disco flick ‘Saturday Night Fever’.
Red Hot Chili Peppers ‘Go Robot’ was directed by Thoranna Sigurdardottir (Noah, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider). Dancer Stephanie Crousillat makes a cameo.
‘The Getaway’ was produced by Danger Mouse. It is the first Red Hot Chili Peppers in 27 years to not feature Rick Rubin as producer.
Kiedes told LA’s KROQ, “We had an unusually difficult experience making this record where we wrote 20 to 30 songs and it was all ready to go and we thought it was happening, and then Flea went snowboarding and broke his arm real bad.”
“So we rethought everything and then we didn’t have a producer and we were just sort of lost in space with all these songs… When all the dust settled, Brian Burton, a.k.a. Danger Mouse, emerged and said, ‘Let’s go make a record.’ We were, like, ‘Great! We have all these songs,’ and he was, like, ‘Leave those there. Let’s go write new songs in the studio.’ So the process began over again.”
‘The Getaway’ is the sixth number one album for Red Hot Chili Peppers in Australia. Every album since ‘Blood Sugar Sex Majik’ has made it to no 1 in Australia except the previous album ‘I’m With You’ which peaked at no 2.
