Samuel Symons, the 27 year old son of Skyhooks guitarist, television star and radio broadcaster, Red Symons, has lost his battle with brain cancer at age 27.

Symons is now working at Melbourne radio station 3AW. The following statement was issued via 3AW.

It is with the deepest sadness Red announces the passing of his beautiful son Samuel Symons.

Samuel passed peacefully overnight surrounded by his family.

We ask that you please respect the privacy of Red and his family at this very sad and difficult time.

Samuel had been battling cancer most of his life.

Red Symons was guitarist for Skyhooks from the bands inception until 1977. He played on the three albums ‘Living In The 70s’ (1974), ‘Ego Is Not A Dirty Word’ (1975) and ‘Straight In A Gay Gay World’ (1976).

In the 1980s, as a cast member of Hey Hey Its Saturday, Red made a name for himself as the bitchy, bitter judge of Red Faces.

In 2003, he joined ABC Radio Melbourne as host of the breakfast program. He left in 2017.
