Reg Mombassa unveiled a 60 metre long original work of art at the Sydney Opera House forecourt today to cover up construction work.
The work of the Dog Trumpet guitarist can be viewed from the steps of the Sydney Opera House. Reg unveiled the piece today.
For the past 22 years Reg has been performing as Dog Trumpet with his brother Peter O’Doherty. The brothers were both founding members of Mental As Anthing.
Dog Trumpet recently released their 6th studio album ‘Medicated Spirits’. The 2CD set marks more than three decades of performing and recording for the O’Doherty’s. Mental As Anything had their first hit with ‘The Nips Are Getting Bigger’ in 1979.
Both Pete and Reg are distinguished artists. Reg’s paintings have been bought by Elton John, Ewan McGregor and Patrick White.
Reg’s first exhibition was as part of a group exhibition in 1975 in Sydney. His first solo exhibition was in 1986. That same year he was commissioned by Mambo to create the artwork for the brand. In 2007, one of Reg’s works was shortlisted for an Archibald Prize.
