Nazareth singer Dan McCafferty announced his retirement from the band after collapsing on stage last month.
McCafferty, lead singer of Nazareth since their forming in 1968, retired in late August after collapsing twice on stage due to COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder).
On Thursday, McCafferty issued a letter to fans:
Dear Friends,
I would like to thank you all for the support and fun you have given me for the past 40+ some odd years.
I am so sorry my health has forced me to stop touring, but i hope Nazareth can continue with a new singer and that you will support him as you did me.
I would especially like to thank Pete,Jimmy and Lee,my band brothers and,of course, all the crew;Tam,Phil,Stevie,Rab,Blair and Mark. Also Alan and Steve, our agents.
On a happier note-a new album is being mixed as we speak.
I think it’s fab and hope you all will agree.Thanks,Yann.
Thanks for all the love you have sent the last few weeks.
Will miss you all. NAZ RULE!
Thanks, Dan
At this point, Pete Agnew is the only remaining original member of the group which also includes Jimmy Murrison (joined 1994) and Lee Agnew (joined 1999). No new vocalist has been announced.
