Richard Carpenter has been working in London at Abbey Road studios on a project to orchestrate The Carpenters. The result, ‘Carpenters with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’ will be released in December.
“This project has been a labor of love and I wanted to thank the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and everyone else for their hard work and dedication to this new album,” Richard Carpenter said in a statement.
“I think that’s what makes it very special: the fact that it’s his music and he knows it and that he was there from the start,” says Royal Philharmonic orchestral manager Ian Maclay. “It’s not somebody else interpreting, which is what normally happens.”
Richard Carpenter leapt at the chance to renovate the old catalogue. “There have been more than a few times when I have thought, ‘I wish I could have a second crack at that,'” Carpenter says. “And there were places where things could be augmented without overdoing it. That’s the trick.”
The album will be released on 7 December 2018.
