Richard Clapton, one of Australian’s iconic singer songwriters, will publish his memoirs in August and release an anthology covering 40 years to coincide with the book’s release.
Clapton’s book it the story of rock and roll excesses and a 40 year career taking Richard through London, Berlin, Sydney, Los Angeles and Paris. According to the publisher Allen & Unwin, “By his own frank admission, these were years fuelled by prodigious quantities of alcohol and drugs, set against a backdrop of constant recording and touring, of endless bacchanalian partying and wild sex. It was to be a dark and dangerous journey to the very outer limits of human behavior and physical endurance, a rollercoaster ride of extraordinary euphoric highs and deep, shattering lows. Dozens of Richard’s friends died on that journey or fell off the path. Miraculously, he survived to tell the tale AND he remembers everything”.
Richard Clapton fans will also be able to own an anthology featuring a document of Richard’s entire career in one place. The CD set and DVD will include the legendary 1988 film ‘The Best Years Of Our Lives’.
Richard Clapton released his debut album ‘Prussian Blue’ in 1973. The follow-up ‘Girls On The Avenue’ featured the now classic title track.
Richard Clapton composed a vault of Aussie classics including ‘Capricorn Dancer’, ‘’I Am An Island’, ‘The Best Years Of Our Lives’ and the misunderstood ‘Down In The Lucky Country’, accepted as a pro-Australia song when he was actually the complete opposite intent. (The sarcasm went over most people’s heads).
Richard Clapton’s Best Years 1974-2014 / The 40th Anniversary Collection is out on Festival Records through Warner Music Australia on August 1 2014. His memoir The Best Years of Our Lives is out through Allen & Unwin in early August.
