Ringo Starr is officially Sir Richard Starkey MBE with thanks to a tap on the shoulder from future King William.
Ringo has become the second Beatle to be knighted after Sir Paul McCartney was knighted in 1997.
Sir Ringo, along with Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison, had previously received the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) award for his services to music in 1965. (In 1969, Lennon returned his medal to the Queen as a protest to the Vietnam War, but his title was not affected).
Sir Ringo joins the Queen’s musical stable of knights including Sir Ivan Morrison, Sir Rod Stewart, Sir Ray Davies, Sir Elton John, Sir Cliff Richard and Sir Mick Jagger.
