Robert Hughes, best known in Australia as the star of Hey Dad and internationally as the radio DJ in Abba: The Movie has been found guilty on nine of the 11 child sex charges against him.
Of the two unresolved cases Judge Peter Zahra ordered deliberations to continue.
Hughes proclaimed he was not guilty right up to being led out of court when he yelled “I am innocent”.
The charges date back to 1980. Hughes was the star of Hey Dad from 1987 to 1994 and made 291 episodes of the hit Aussie sitcom.
In 1977 he played the part of DJ Ashley Wallace in Abba: The Movie. His character tries to secure an interview with Abba during their Australian tour.
Hughes was once also musician playing band for 60 pop band The Flying Circus before they went on to have their own hits ‘Hey Ride’ and ‘La La’.
Hughes was one of Australia’s most popular actors of the 70s and 80s with parts in The Sullivans, Skyways, Chopper Squad, Kingswood Country and A Country Practice.
In 1979 he starred in the Australia series of the hit UK comedy ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ playing Eddie Booth’s landlord when he moved down under.
The remaining two charges are expected to be finalised on Tuesday when the sentence will be handed down.
