Robin Williams’ death has spent fans into a shopping spree boosting two of his comedy albums back into the American charts.
Williams died on Monday, August 11. Just as when music artists pass, there is an influx of sales for albums from comedian’s as people remember some of their favorite works. For Williams, two albums are in the top 200.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Volume 1, with a mix of 70’s classics, sits atop the Billboard Albums chart for the second consecutive week after debuting at number 3. Could this album be about to do for 70’s music what the American Graffiti soundtrack did for music of the 50’s and early 60’s in 1973?
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers manage to eek out a third week in the top ten, despite predictions it would drop out, with Hypnotic Eye while Eric Clapton’s The Breeze drops to number 11, also in its third frame.
Weapons of Mass Destruction, from 2010, returns to the charts at number 63 after peaking at 59 in its original run. The Grammy Award winning A Night at the Met charts for the first time, coming in at number 69. It’s also the highest debuting album by a veteran artist this week.
Sinead O’Connor starts well, at least in comparison to her last few releases, with I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss. The number 83 debut is her best showing in five albums back to 2000’s Faith and Courage.
Brian Setzer also has his best chart position since 2000 for a non-holiday album with Rockabilly Riot! All Original. The album opens at 91 and, although the Brian Setzer Orchestra’s Dig That Crazy Christmas hit 56 in 2006, you have to go back to 2000’s Vavoom!, which peaked at 56, for a better non-holiday position.
