KISS star Gene Simmons has once again lived up to his reputation as No 1 Arsehole of Rock.
Simmons recently talked with Newsweek and talked about the deaths of artists in 2016. According to Gene, “Bowie was the most tragic of all because it was real sickness. All the other ones were a choice.”
That’s news to most people but he doubled down on his comment in regards to Prince. “His drugs killed him. What do you think, he died from a cold?
“I think Prince was heads, hands and feet above all the rest of them. I thought he left [Michael] Jackson in the dust. Prince was way beyond that. But how pathetic that he killed himself. Don’t kid yourself, that’s what he did. Slowly, I’ll grant you… but that’s what drugs and alcohol is: a slow death.”
While there are investigations into the cause of Prince’s untimely passing at the age of 57, there has yet to be any definitive conclusions. While investigators wait on test results, they have been talking with pharmacies and doctors about possible interaction with Prince and drugs.
Simmons went on to talk about his recent dust-up with Ice Cube after saying that N.W.A. didn’t belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and that he “looked forward to the day rap dies.” After trying to backtrack a bit, saying all music eventually dies, he went on to clarify his statement specific to N.W.A. “N.W.A. is a legendary hip-hop act, perhaps the preeminent one—but it ain’t rock. The day N.W.A. goes into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I want Kiss in the hip-hop hall of fame.
“You can walk up to Dre and say: ‘What kind of band are you?’ He’s not going to say: ‘We’re a rock band.’ If you ask us what band we are, I’m not going to say hip-hop.”
