Rod Stewart became a blubbering mess when his favourite team Celtic beat Barcelona at the European Cup final on Wednesday.

Rod wrote one of his biggest hits ‘You’re In My Heart’ about Celtic in 1975. At the time many thought the song was about his then girlfriend Britt Ekland but it turned out to be about something he loved even more … Celtic.

The match was a close one. Celtic beat Barcelona 2:1 and as full-time hit Rod turned on the waterworks.

Neil Lennon, one time player and now manager of Celtic, says despite Rod being the team’s number one supporter he has never met him.

Lennon told dailyrecord.co.uk that Rod isn’t the only supporter. He got a call from Sir Elton John to congratulate him on the team’s win.

“I had a lot of texts from people in the game which was fantastic but I got a call yesterday from left field from Sir Elton John believe it or not, congratulating me,” he told the paper.

“I thought my missus was winding me up but it just shows you the interest it has generated among a lot of people.

Elton rang just before he left for Australia where he opened Perth Arena last night.

Meanwhile, Rod had good news as well. His first Christmas album ‘Merry Christmas Baby’ debuted in the top 10 in both Australia and the USA.
