Ross Hannaford of the legendary Daddy Cool (and a list of associated acts far too long to mention) was back on stage last night in Melbourne has a delay due to illness last week.
Ross has been battling cancer in 2015 and has made music his therapy with a creative splurge that has led to his new album ‘Hanna’. Hanna was out to launch ‘Hanna’ and turn the room into a party for what is his last official show of 2015.
The ‘Hanna’ launch was a good time had by all who attended, with master guitarist Hannaford playing incredible pieces that defied his unique sound, evolved over 50 years when he and school buddy Ross Wilson formed their first band The Pink Finks in 1965. Wilson was on hand to lend vocals to ‘Wooly Bully’, a song that dates back to the start of both their careers.
Hanna and Wilson had two more bands The Party Machine then Sons of Vegetal Mother before forming the historic Daddy Cool and giving Australia anthems in ‘Eagle Rock’, ‘Come Back Again’ and ‘Hi Honey Ho’.
Another constant in the life of Ross Hannaford was Margot Barrett, who has shared a musical lifetime with Hanna and was on hand to sing for the night.
Ross Hannaford is not a well man, but he had love in the room last night and a lot of people inspired by his drive to continue to play some of the most innovate music Australia has heard.
