“I believe this was the first genuine Australian rock and roll song ever written by the great Johnny O’Keefe. I’m talking about The Wild One, Real Wild Child,” Ross said introing the song at a rare, intimate Flying Saucer Club gig in Melbourne on Sunday night.
Ross Wilson’s ‘Real Wild Child’ will be released as the anthem to this year’s Reclink Community Cup. Ross Wilson will perform the song live at the Community Cup in Elsternwick Park on June 26.

Ross Wilson’s Flying Saucer Club gig was a rare opportunity to see one of Australia’s living legends in such an up-close and personal environment.
The fans that discovered this low-key event were treated to a complete history of Australian rock and roll from the man who wrote the songs dating way back Ross’ first band The Pink Finks in the mid 60s.
By the time the show was not even midway through, everyone was standing.

Because of his number of successful bands people tend to forget that first and foremost Ross Wilson is a brilliant songwriter as shown with this classic of his, covered by John Farnham.
Once again @rosswilsonmusic reminds us what an incredible songwriter he is pic.twitter.com/PapKPt4ZJS

His 1971 Daddy Cool hit ‘Eagle Rock’, now an Australian anthem, was the inspiration for Elton John to write ‘Crocodile Rock’. Look closely at Elton’s ‘Don’t Shoot Me I’m On The Piano Player’ cover. He is wearing a Daddy Cool badge.

Ross Wilson has achieved so much over 50 years, via Daddy Cool and Mondo Rock, his solo work and as a producer (he recorded the first three Skyhooks albums). This man’s career should be studied in music schools.
