The 2014 Australian Open tennis season at Rod Laver Arena will feature an all-star cast of Australian performers including a feast of new and heritage music from British India, The Rubens and Daryl Braithwaite over summer.
The line-up from January 13, also including The Preatures and World’s End Press, has been curated by the Gudinski’s Mushroom Group.
“Mushroom is thrilled to be involved with the Australian Open,” Mushroom’s Matt Gudinski said in a statement. “As Melburnians it’s exciting for us to see the best of music and sport combined – two things we love. We’re especially proud to see the inclusion of so many great emerging bands like The Rubens, World’s End Press and The Preatures on the line-up, which says something both about the event’s support for local culture and also the thriving state of new Australian music.”
The Rubens will play the tennis on Australia Day. “We can’t believe we’re playing on men’s final night at the Australian Open, and on Australia Day no less! We are all big tennis fans, so it’s most certainly a special gig for us. And we have our fingers crossed for an Aussie in the final too” they said.
