RÜFÜS have changed their name for the North American market to avoid confusion with Chaka Khan’s old band Rufus from the 70s.
From now on RÜFÜS will be known as RÜFÜS DU SOL in North America. The band members opposed the name change but realized that they had no choice as the original Rufus had the name trademarked.
RÜFÜS DU SOL is signed to Columbia Records in the USA.
RÜFÜS DU SOL are one of the Australian acts scheduled to showcase at SXSW in Austin, Texas in March.
“We’ve been told all the creepy stories about not getting sound-checks and it taking an hour to carry all your gear from venue to venue on foot because of the crowds…so we’re expecting it to be like that time you fell off your skateboard bombing your local hill as a kid – it hurt a lot but all you remember is how good it felt,” singer Tyrone Lindqvist said of the upcoming Texan showcase.
The SXSW showcase date will be part of a bigger North American tour for the Aussie band which kicks off in San Francisco on March 7.
