‘Sharkmouth’, the “labour of love” Aussie rock legend Russell Morris, will be the number 6 album when the ARIA chart is updated tomorrow.
Russell’s success with ‘Sharkmouth’ is also a victory for record industry executive Robert Rigby who had the foresight to release the album.
The birth of ‘Sharkmouth’ began more than three years ago for Morris who then took the idea to every record label and was knocked back by the them all. Morris describes his current success as “a Lazarus story”.
Rigby, the former managing director of Warner Music Australia, was the only one who heard the potential and released the album through his new Fanfare Records.
The Leading Edge group, the largest chain of independent music stores in Australia, report that ‘Sharkmouth’ was not only their biggest seller again this week but that it was outselling the number two record by 9 to 1.
ARIA chart statistician Gavin Ryan will update this weeks chart positions tomorrow morning at 9am at Noise11.com.
