When Carlos Santana announced the upcoming release of Corazon, an album with numerous Latin stars guesting on vocals, it was assumed that his project reuniting the original Santana band had somehow fallen through the cracks.
It was a year ago that Carlos told Noise11.com that he was reuniting the lineup from the original three albums by the band for a new set “So far we have invited the original members like Greg Rolie from the first three albums. It will be like Santana IV because we stopped at Santana III. … As well as Neal we have the two Mikes, Mike Carabello and Michael Shrieve. I am pretty sure Greg’s going to do it. So that is pretty much everyone.”
Now, in an interview with Fractal Audio, Neal Schon is confirming that the project is still a go. “Some big news is that I’m going into rehearsal with the Santana band. We’re working up a record that will be recorded sometime this year, probably after the Journey tour. It’s fun to get back with Santana – it’s full circle for me.”
Schon also told Fractal he had two other album projects, one with Deen Castronovo and Marco Mendoza called So U and one with Jan Hammer and Steve Smith that will be a two-CD suite of stretched out pieces.
