Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has undergone another name change, telling fans he will only be answering to the moniker Love from now on.
The rapper took to Twitter on Saturday (04Nov17), his 48th birthday, to reveal his identity alteration to his followers.
“I know it’s risky because it could come off as corny to some people,” he said. “So my new name is Love, aka Brother Love. I will not be answering to Puffy, Diddy, Puff Daddy, or any of my other monikers.”
Adding as an explanation of the name change, he added: “I’m just not who I am before. I’m something different.”
First making a name for himself on the music scene, Combs was known as Puff Daddy. He then swapped his name to P. Diddy, before dropping the P five years later to become Diddy. He’s also been known by his real name Sean John and the nickname Puffy.
Sharing the video announcing his new name, the Bad Boy for Life star captioned it: “I decided to change my name again! My new name is LOVE aka Brother Love. #TakeDat.”
Combs previously cited the late singer David Bowie as his inspiration for having multiple stage personas, all with different names.
During an appearance on Khloe Kardashian’s short-lived chat show Kocktails with Khloe, he explained: “I met with him and I was so inspired… I knew him as the white boy who was on Soul Train, but then I started to do my research and I saw that he had all these different personalities. It kind of empowered me and gave me the confidence to have my stage persona.
“A lot of people don’t understand that Puff Daddy and all that is separate from who Sean Combs is. Bowie was a great example of reinvention.”
