System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian will release two albums in June and July.
The first album ‘Orca’ is described as Tankian’s first true symphony. “Orca is known as the killer whale, but is really a dark dolphin, a symbolism for human dichotomy,” Tankian says.
The album was recorded in Linz, Austria after Serj composed and demoed the music at his home studio and then funded the recording through Kickstarter.
The album features Das Karussell Ensemble, conducted by Werner Steinmetz.
The second album is ‘Jazz-iz Christ’. This album features renowned pianist Tigran Hamasyan, flautist Valeri Tolstov, and trumpet player Tom Duprey. Additional performances from The Police’s Stewart Copeland and actor/musician Davis Alpay and Vincent Pedulla make for a very unique collaboration.
‘Jazz-iz Christ’ is instrumental except for four tracks. Serj says it is “an amalgam of progressive jazz, electronic, ethnic and even rock elements.”
Serj Tankian will perform solo orchestral shows in Ukraine, Russia and Italy in September and October.
