Glen Campbell isn’t quite finished with his final tour, but he did perform his last concert in the Los Angeles area on Sunday night at the Hollywood Bowl.
According to most reports, those in the crowd would never know that he was suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease from his singing and, especially, his guitar playing throughout the night with only slight lapses between numbers.
The evening was not just a Campbell concert, as a number of stars performed during the first set in salute to jos long and illustrious career, both as a singer and as a session man in the Wrecking Crew. Courtney Taylor-Taylor of the Dandy Warhols, Lucinda Williams, Kris Kristofferson, Jenny Lewis and Jackson Browne stayed far away from the songs that Glen would be performing later in the evening, sticking with some of his more obscure hits along with songs on which he played guitar during the early and mid-60’s.
The L.A. country group Dawes acted as the house band for the evening. Cambell used his own band which included two of his daughters, who also gave their father a break mid-show, and his son on drums.
