Two engineers of The Beatles’ classic ‘Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band’ album, Geoff Emerick and Richard Lush, will sit down to discuss their work on the historic recording in Melbourne in February.
Emerick was the engineer on the album working directly with George Martin. Lush was Emerick’s assistant and is credited as ‘second engineer’.
Emerick also worked with the Beatles on ‘Revolver’, ‘The Beatles’ (white album) and ‘Abbey Road’. Before The Beatles, he engineered Manfred Mann’s ‘Pretty Flamingo’. He received Grammy Awards for his work on ‘Sgt Pepper’ and ‘Abbey Road’.
Geoff Emerick went on to work with Paul McCartney on ‘Band On The Run’, ‘London Town’ and ‘Flaming Pie’. He has also worked with Cheap Trick, Supertramp, Art Garfunkel, Nazareth, Split Enz and Ultravox.
Lush moved to Australia in the 1970s and became the producer for Sherbet.
‘The Masters of Sgt Pepper’ will be hosted by Alan Howe with an acoustic performance by Davey Lane and a Q&A with Leo Sayer.
‘The Masters of Sgt Pepper’ is on 24 and 25 February at Planetshakers on City Road, Southbank.
