One of Australia’s great guitarists Shannon Bourne will perform at the Melbourne Guitar Show this week.
Shannon and his trio will play at the AON Whammy Bar stage on Sunday from 12:30pm at the Melbourne Guitar Show at the Caulfield Racecourse. Get tickets here.
“This year I’ve put together a trio to play some really great blues songs,” Shannon tells Noise11.com.
“I’ll play some Otis Rush, an Allman Brothers song, Al Green, Taj Mahal. I want a point of difference. I find that people respond the most to guitar with a “song format,” he said.
The trio is Shannon on guitar with Carl Pannuzzo from Checkerboard Lounge on drums and vocals. “He sounds like Stevie Wonder,” says Shannon. “Luke Hodgson is on bass. He works with Megan Washington and he is with Meg Mac at the moment.”
Shannon performed the songs of Jimi Hendrix at the 2016 Melbourne Guitar Show. He confirms it cane be a tough audience. “It’s a different type of energy,” he says. “There is that kind of “stepping with your arms folded checking everyone out”. I’m past that. I’m here, I’m lucky to be here but this is what I do and if you don’t like it, that’s okay”.
Shannon will also be part of the finale Triple M Jam Sunday at 3pm. He will also perform in the Nick Charles’ hosted Guitar Players Session 1 on Saturday at 2pm at the AON Mezzanine Stage.
The Melbourne Guitar Show is on 5 and 6 August 2017 from 10am to 6pm Saturday and until 5pm Sunday.
Next for Shannon … “I’ve been recording a new solo album over the past year and a half and chipping away at that. I want to make an instrumental because its part of me and I haven’t done it yet”.
