Sherbet’s original singer Dennis Loughlin has passed away after a battle with cancer, Daryl Braithwaite has informed fans.
After a long fight with cancer, Dennis Loughlin has passed away,” Daryl said. “He was the first lead singer in Sherbet . He was brilliant on stage and so very naughty. My condolences to his family and friends. May he now Rest In Peace”
Dennis was a co-founder of Sherbet with Doug Rea on bass, Sam See on organ and guitar, Clive Shakespeare on guitar and vocals and Danny Taylor on drums. Taylor left three months later and was replaced by Alan Sandow. That line-up recorded Sherbet’s debut single ‘Crimson Ships’.
Daryl Braithwaite joined as co-lead singer in early 1970 but then Loughlin left and Daryl became the sole lead singer. The band had its first Australian hit with its second single ‘Can You Feel It Baby’.
Prior to Sherbet Dennis was a member of Sebastian Hardie (1967-1968). After Sherbet he became the first manager for AC/DC.
