Luke Yeoward tells Noise11 that Shihad’s Tom Larkin will drum for rock n’ soul upstarts King Cannons on their impending album launch tour.
We recently spoke to King Cannons frontman Luke Yeoward about their gutsy soul-rock debut The Brightest Light, and their producer Tom Larkin of New Zealand rock icons Shihad.
Luke says of Larkin, “He means a lot to New Zealand’s rock community and the worldwide rock community. He’s a great man. He’s got a lot of experience. But the thing that attracted me most to Tom is that he’s a really a straight-talking guy, very much like us. So we got along well with him on a personal level, so that was a good start.”
“He’s also got a lot of experience behind a drum kit and behind a mixing desk” Yeoward continues, “And he hasn’t done a lot of production work, so he’s thirsty. He wants to carve something for himself and we have that same thirst.”
Yeoward also confirmed that Larkin will be a stand-in drummer during their new tour. “He’s playing with us for all the albums launch shows, for the next four shows because our drummer is overseas with a prior commitment,” he says, and with a ironic swagger, “So we just casually hired Tom from Shihad to play drums for us.”
King Cannons’ excellent new album The Brightest Light is out this Friday 22 June, and they’ll play launch shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane over the next week (as well as Mackay’s River Sessions Festival.
There’s also a deal where you can get the album and a ticket for a mere $25. Book at MoshTix for Melbourne and Sydney, and OzTix for Brisbane.
