Ray Davies, frontman of The Kinks, has been knighted by the Prince of Wales Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.

It was announced in the New Year Honors List that Davies would receive a knighthood for services to the arts.

Davies has already received a CBE from the Queen in 2004. On hearing the news of his new title he said: “Initially I felt a mixture of surprise, humility, joy and a bit embarrassed but after thinking about it, I accept this for my family and fans as well as everyone who has inspired me to write.”

Having recently announced his first album of solo material in 10 years, Americana, to be released on April 21, this could prove to be another pivotal year for the lead singer and songwriter.

Davies has been a songwriting inspiration to generations of fans who continue to hope for a full Kinks reunion and although rumours continue to circulate, no concrete plans have been confirmed.
