Pink slips and exit interviews are out. Press releases and random twitters are in as ways to find out your presence is no longer needed, at least in the world of music.
Dave Lombardo found out that there was no hope in his returning to Slayer on Thursday when the band announced that their new drummer was Paul Bostaph. Lombardo had been let go by the group in February in a contract dispute but he had been holding out hope that it would be resolved and he would return.
That’s not happening now and Lombardo found out the hard way, without a single word from the band or management. On Thursday, he simply posted on Twitter:
Hundreds responded to the Tweet including one fan who asked “did you even hear from them or did you just read it online like the rest of us?” To which he responded “Online.”
Lombardo left Slayer for the first time in 1986, claiming that he wasn’t getting paid enough to pay his rent and utilities. He returned from 1987 to 1992 when he once again quit after a conflict over management insisting he tour when he wanted to see the birth of his first child. He returned for his third stint in December 2001.
