Sound City Players At SXSW SETLIST

Dave Grohl’s famous friends for Sound City Players included John Fogerty, Stevie Nicks and Rick Springfield at SXSW on Thursday night.

Dave Grohl brought his Sound City Players and a raft of special guests to Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheatre in Austin, TX on Thursday night for a three hour and twenty minute/38 song party.

The night was divided into sections with different guests and, in most cases, featuring covers associated with those players. The night opened with Grohl and Alain Johannes of Queens of the Stone Age playing songs from that band and his former band, Eleven.

That followed with Stevie Nicks and a five song set consisting of three Fleetwood Mac songs, one solo tune and a track from the Sound City: Real to Reel set. She was followed by Chris Goss of Masters of Reality and Rage Against the Machine, and Brad Wilk of Rage and Audioslave playing four from the Masters repertoire along with a Sound City track.

Section four went to Lee Ving of Fear followed by, as Dave Grohl called him, Rick “Fucking” Springfield with a set of hits and his Sound City cut.

As the evening began to wind down, it was time for a five song set from Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, and Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear of Nirvana for a five song Cheap Trick set. The evening ended with John Fogerty playing five CCR classics and his own Centerfield.

Throughout the night, Nirvana/Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear and drummer Taylor Hawkins graced the stage at points during the night as a pseudo-house band.
