On Wednesday 10th September, one of Britain’s most loved and successful groups Spandau Ballet will be presented with a PRS for Music Heritage Award at the site of their first gig at The Blitz Club.

Spandau Ballet first played their first ever show at The Blitz in London’s Great Queen Street, on Wednesday 5th December 1979. The band made such an impact during the gig that they were offered a deal on the spot with Island Record’s by legendary founder Chris Blackwell. In its heyday, the venue was the spiritual home of the ‘Blitz Kids,’ a stylish, creative in-crowd of young Londoners spearheaded by Steve Strange and the innovative DJ skills of Rusty Egan who changed the musical landscape of London’s clubland.

The Heritage Award plaque will be unveiled at the site of the former Blitz club by the band on Wednesday 10th September.

The PRS for Music Heritage Award was established in 2009 to recognise important live music venues where artists launched their careers. Previous recipients include Elton John, Blur, Soul II Soul, Faithless and Queen.
