Accordion player and leader of Buckwheat Zydeco, Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural, Jr., is being treated for early stage cancer.
The treatments will keep Dural down for a bit of time so all current dates for the Grammy-winning group have been postponed for the time being. The band’s site says to expect dates to resume this summer.
Dural has said “I feel fine. I’ll beat this and be back on the road soon. And you can take that to your best bank!”
Dural played with the master zydeco artist Clifton Chenier before striking out on his own with Buckwheat Zydeco in 1979. The group has gone on to find mainstream success, bringing Zydeco music out of the south and to the world.
