Stephen Colbert has a start date for his new job. The former star of ‘The Colbert Report’ will replace David Letterman as the host of ‘The Late Show’ on September 8, 2015.
Letterman’s last broadcast will be on May 20. CBS will broadcast reruns until Colbert takes the chair.
Stephen Colbert finished up ‘The Colbert Report’ at the end of 2014 with an all-star send-off from Michael Stipe, Bill Clinton, Willie Nelson and Cyndi Lauper and Peter Frampton, Barry Manilow, Patrick Stewart, George Lucas, Jeff Tweedy and The Newsroom stars Jeff Daniels and Sam Waterson.
Colbert hosted The Colbert Report for nine-years. Letterman started Late Night With David Letterman at NBC in 1982. In 1993 he moved to CBS where ever since he has been the host of The Last Show With David Letterman since August 30, 1993.
