Steve Kilbey And Kate Ceberano Have Made An Album Together

The Church’s Steve Kilbey has made an album with Kate Ceberano. Steve says a mutual friend put them together and the entire thing was done without even meeting.

“He wrote to me and said Kate is interested in doing a different album to what she normally does,” Kilbey tells Noise11.com. “He would suggest a title and I would lyrics to that. He would send it on to Kate and Kate would put music to it. Then when she had sung it they would send it back and I’d do some vocals on it to”.

After all these years Steve Kilbey and Kate Ceberano had never actually met. “We only met when it was over. I hadn’t met Kate before,” Steve says. “We did this one gig this one night at a private function and it was great playing with her. I really hope more comes of that. She is pretty busy. I don’t know when it is coming out, maybe early next year”.

Steve also discovered Kate is a pretty good drummer. “She played with a snare head, just the head of drum around her neck,” he said. “She also had a kids drum next to her. She sang the gig with the snare drum wrapped around her neck and occasionally hitting and kicking the drums on the floor. She never missed a note or a beat. I am very impressed with her musical prowess. She plays guitar, she play piano. I didn’t know she was a drummer as well. She is one of those wonderful singers who never sings out of tune. She was charming, gracious and wonderful. He was great collaborating with her”.

Meanwhile, The Church recently released a new album “Man Woman Life Death Infinity’. Technically it is the 26th album for The Church not counting greatest hits, live album or Steve’s solo albums or collaborations. When you add up his complete recorded works it numbers around 60 albums.

The Church are currently on an Australian tour.

Toto’s 2025 setlist focuses on the heritage of the band. The setlist was interesting. Compared to how it was curated for Australia in 2019 this time Toto kept to the albums of the 1900s. Mind you, there were no complaints from the audience for doing that. The biggest hits came from those early years.
