When Toto’s Steve Lukather returns to Australia with Ringo Starr in February, he is seeing it more like a summer vacation that work.
“This is the best summer vacation I have ever had in my life,” Steve tells Noise11.com. “Ringo and I have gotten to be really good buds. He is one of the most sweet, soulful, wise cats I have met in my life. I am honoured to call him my friend”.
The line-up for Ringo Starr and the All-Starr Band really is full of stars. Toto’s Lukather will be joined by Todd Rundgren, Journey and Santana’s Greg Rolie, Richard Page of Mr Mister, Mark Rivera from Billy Joel’s band and Gregg Bissonette from David Lee Roth and Joe Satriani’s band. “Everybody cares about everyone else’s songs and we just want it to be a great show. There is no clicky thing. It is all for one and one for all,” Steve says.
Touring with a Beatle is a dream job for Lukather. “It is wonderfully surreal. If you had have told me about this as a kid I would have thought I would have had more chance of being beamed up by aliens,” he said.
The Toto songs in the show have been ‘Rosanna’, ‘Africa’ and ‘Hold The Line’ but they weren’t picked by Steve. “This is Ringo’s show. Ringo picks the songs. He puts together a really great team and a really great juke-box set. Every song is a hit,” he said.
