Shane Meadows’ highly anticipated documentary THE STONE ROSES: MADE OF STONE, about the legendary Manchester band, will open on 5 June.
The full band will attend the premiere.
The release will follow a premiere on Thursday 30 May in Manchester at a location to be announced, with the band set to make a rare public appearance alongside director Shane Meadows and producer Mark Herbert. Herbert produced the film for Warp Films and the film was fully financed by Film4 and 4DVD.
The event will be satellite-linked to 100 cinemas as part of nationwide preview screenings running concurrently with the premiere launch, with tickets for both the host venue and the satellite-linked cinemas made available to the public.
Fans will be able to ask their questions to Shane Meadows, either live at the event in Manchester or from cinemas around the country via Twitter. Tickets will be available from Wednesday 17 April at 9.30am, details of which will be published via www.facebook.com/madeofstonefilm.
Additionally, a number of fans who attended last year’s Warrington Parr Hall and Heaton Park gigs are featured in the film and a select few will be the lucky recipients of tickets to the premiere in Manchester. Images of the chosen fans will be posted on the film’s official Facebook and Twitter pages in the coming weeks: www.facebook.com/madeofstonefilm / www.twitter.com/madeofstonefilm.
Shane Meadows said: ‘Making this film, I got to be part of something truly remarkable, the double decade awaited ‘resurrection’ of my all time favourite band, The Stone Roses. People say that you can’t recapture your youth, it’ll never be the same second time round etc, but that’s utter rubbish. The Roses were never allowed to reach their peak first time around so as far as I and millions of fans around the world were concerned, with this comeback the Roses could be even greater.
‘This film isn’t a history lesson, nor is it a two hour concert film. It is a film about defying the odds, sticking it to the man and telling the cynics to shut their pie-holes!
‘The Stone Roses are back baby!’
In 2012 a resurrection no one thought possible took place when legendary band The Stone Roses reformed after 16 years.
With unprecedented access to previously unseen archive footage, THE STONE ROSES: MADE OF STONE is a revealing journey through the life of one of the most revered and influential bands in British music history.
Acclaimed filmmaker Shane Meadows brings his unique directorial style, humour and emotional depth to the film, capturing the band at work and in their everyday lives as they rehearsed for their much-anticipated reunion, which culminated in three triumphant homecoming gigs at Manchester’s Heaton Park in front of 220,000 adoring fans.
Incorporating never-before-seen material spanning the band’s musical history, the personal experiences of many of those touched by the band and their music, and unparalleled access to the record-breaking sell-out concerts which took place in summer 2012, this is the definitive record of the definitive band of the past 25 years.
Produced by Mark Herbert, the film is a Warp Films, Film4 and 4DVD production.
