In a one-paragraph statement published on the Stone Temple Pilots website, the band wrote “Stone Temple Pilots have announced they terminated Scott Weiland. No further information is available at this time”.

Weiland recently announced dates for his new band Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts starting March 1 in Flint, Mi but says his sacking from Stone Temple Pilots came as a surprise.

On Facebook he posted, “I learned of my supposed “termination” from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be “terminated” from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday”.

Weiland founded Stone Temple Pilots with the DeDeo brothers Robert and Dean and drummer Eric Kretz in 1986 but they split in 2003 because of Weiland erratic behaviour due to drug abuse. The band reformed in 2008 and played a North American tour. A 6th album ‘Stone Temple Pilots’ was also released and debuted at no. 2 in America.

Last year Stone Temple Pilots released the live DVD ‘Alive In The Windy City’.
