Super Furry Animals Return After 6 Year Break

Although they never officially broke up, Super Furry Animals have been on hiatus for the last six years.

This May, the band will release a deluxe 15th anniversary version of their album Mwang along with mount a short tour of the U.K. including a date at London’s 02 Academy Brixton.

Rhys told NME “It will be good just to play and hang out again. We’ll probably be doing a different set every night and songs off all our nine studio albums. We’ll be doing quite a lot of ‘Mwng’ because it’s fun to play, but probably not the whole thing.”

Super Furry Animals formed in 1993 in Cardiff, Wales by Gruff Rhys, Huw Bunford, Guto Pryce, Clan Claran and Dafydd Ieuan. They’ve released nine studio albums, all of which hit the British top 25 and, although they never had a top ten single, placed seven between 11 and 20. Their Phantom Power album (2003) was the most successful in the U.S., reaching number 17 on the Heatseakers chart and 14 on the Indie Albums.

Their last album was 2009’s Dark Days/Light Years after which they went on hiatus. Since, they have played just one show, on February 29, 2012 at Cardiff City Stadium before a soccer match.

The tour dates:
05/01 – Cardiff – University Great Hall
05/02 – Cardiff – University Great Hall
05/05 – Glasgow – O2 Academy
05/06 – Manchester – Albert Hall
05/08 – London – O2 Academy Brixton
