Survivor bass player Stephan Ellis has died.

A statement from Survivor’s Frank Sullivan reads, “We are devastated to hear that Stephan Ellis has passed away. Steph was the guy who was only interested in the music. He absolutely had a special charm with the fans and within the band. I loved much when it came to Steph”.

Ellis played on the big one for Survivor ‘Eye of the Tiger’. He joined the band in 1981 and stayed until 1988 then returned from 1996 to 1999.

Before Survivor Stephan Ellis had his own band Ellis and released two albums across 1972 and 1973. In 2005 he had a dab at production, working on Samantha Fox’s ‘Angel With An Attitude’ album in 2005.

The Fox record is the last of his credits, according to Allmusic.com.
