Sydney Entertainment Centre will live on as Qantas Credit Union Arena. The iconic Sydney venue has dodged a bullet, at least for two more years.
After a 30-year reigns as one of Sydney’s premiere venues The Sydney Entertainment Centre was due to be knocked down at the end of 2013. AEG Ogden, owners of Allphones Arena, stepped in and saved the venue.
The newly named Qantas Credit Union Arena will now operate for at least two more years.
The Sydney Entertainment Centre opened in 1983. It is licenced to hold 13,000 people per event. Since 1983 it has sold over 1,000,000 tickets per year.
Elton John holds the record for most shows at the venue. He has played there 56 times. Dire Straits played 21 consecutive shows at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in 1985/1986. David Bowie filmed his Glass Spider tour at the venue and released the show on DVD. Kylie Minogue has played 25 shows at the venue. Two Beatles have performed at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Paul McCartney payed three shows in 1983 and George Harrison made a guest appearance with Deep Purple in 1984.
