Utopia Records in the dead heart of Sydney will open old school on Record Store Day … at midnight.
Midnight openings were common in the 90s for major music releases and Utopia will party like its 1999 on Record Store Day. By opening at midnight, Utopia may also be the very first store in the world to open its door for Record Store Day if New Zealand stores wait until normal business hours.
NOTE: The midnight opening will be for ONE HOUR only from midnight to 1am.
Utopia is Sydney’s home of metal. The store opened in 1978, two years before Iron Maiden released its debut album.
Utopia has over 200 Record Store Day releases on order and a further 6000 titles in stock. For Record Store Day they will offer 10% off on the day on all except the special RSD released and once again offer the Golden Ticket, with anyone spending over $30 going in the draw for a one-year ticket to Century venues.
Also as a Record Store Day treat, Noise11 has the official Record Store Day edition of iHeartRadio Music News streaming live now. This week’s show features interviews with Record Store Day Ambassador Ella Hooper, Songland Records’ Frog Harris, Ambition Music Group’s Robert Rigby and RSD Turntable partner Pro-Ject Audio’s Leigh Fischer.
