Sydney six-piece Winston Surfshirt is now with BMG.
Winston Surfshirt has signed a global publishing deal with BMG.
What started out as a solo project became a band effort of Sydney singers, rappers and producers to form a musical collective.
The band also caught the ear of Sir Elton John who has played them on his Beats 1 radio show.
Heath Johns, Managing Director of BMG Australia, said, “The ascent of Winston Surfshirt has been incredible to watch. Sponge Cake was one of 2017’s best releases and one of the most impactful and dynamic debut records from an Australian band in a long time. I am absolutely delighted that the band have chosen BMG as their global publishing partner and we look forward to helping build this exciting story around the world”.
Winston said, “Over the moon to sign with BMG, home to so many of my favourite songwriters past and present like David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Frank Ocean & Andre 3000”.
BMG has built a massive Australia roster including Peking Duk, LDRU, SAFIA, Golden Features, KLP, AC/DC, Wolfmother, Lance Ferguson, The Living End, Meg Mac, San Cisco, Drapht, Montaigne, Matt Corby, Jesse Porsches, Tigerilla, Running Touch, Tame Impala (ex. ANZ), Dead Letter Circus, Nicole Millar, Wave Racer and The Cat Empire.
