Larry Hagman, the infamous J.R. Ewing from the TV series Dallas, has died at the age of 81.
Hagman first rose to fame as astronaut Major Anthony Nelson in the 60s hit series ‘I Dream Of Jeannie’.
In 1977, he was offered the role that would forever turn him from the lovable astronaut to the cunny villain. He took the lead role of J.R. Ewing in what would be become known as the ‘Super Soap’, Dallas.
The 1980 cliffhanger ‘Who Shot J.R.’ became the highest rating show at the time in the USA.
Dallas ran for 13 seasons and ended in 1991.
Hagman was born in Fort Worth, Texas, where a lot of the scenes of Dallas were shot. He came from a musical family. His mother was Broadway star Mary Martin, the star of South Pacific and The Sound of Music.
