Mark Hollis of 80s UK synth-pop band Talk Talk, has died at the age of 64.
Hollis co-founded Talk Talk in 1981. The band was part of the New-Romantic movement along with Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet.
Talk Talk had a series of hits in the UK across the 80s including ‘Talk Talk’ and ‘Its My Life’.
Talk Talk band disbanded in 1991. Hollis released his first solo album, ‘Mark Hollis’ in 1998 but spent most of the 21st century retired from music. In the 2000’s Hollis completely withdrew from public life, only to surface in 2004 to receive a BMI Award for ‘It’s My Life’.
In 2012 he was commission to write music for the TV series ‘Boss’. The piece was titled ‘ARB Section 1’.
Mark’s death was confirmed by family member Anthony Costello.
RIP Mark Hollis. Cousin-in-law. Wonderful husband and father. Fascinating and principled man. Retired from the music business 20 years ago but an indefinable musical icon.
