Taylor Hawkins Gets A Royal Slapdown

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins found it hilarious when Britain’s Prince Harry slapped him in the face to help him overcome jet lag.

The musician and his band first encountered the 33-year-old royal when they headlined the closing concert for the 2014 Invictus Games, a multi-sport event for wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel founded by the prince that year.

Appearing alongside frontman Dave Grohl on BBC News after Foo Fighters’ sell-out concert at London’s The O2 arena on Tuesday night =, Taylor recalled a funny moment in which Harry tried to help him wake up before the big show.

“It was before the Invictus Games and we were playing at the Ambassador’s House,” he said.

“I was tired, I was jet-lagged and we met him and started to really talk, and we were just about to go on stage and I said, ‘I’m so tired,’ and he just went (slap), and I was like… I was a little like, ‘What was that?’ It was great, it was funny – I wore the slap with pride, he’s one of the boys.”

Dave also shared a story about the red-headed royal, retelling the tale of when Harry surprised him after he broke his leg in Sweden back in 2015.

It turns out the prince was one of the first people to visit the rock star, with Dave smiling, “He brought me a gift, he brought me this pillow to put my iPad on while I was in recovery.

“Yeah, he’s the sweetest. I owe you a text, Harry. He came over and there was no entourage or anything.”

Dave’s daughters Violet, 11, Harper, eight, and three-year-old Ophelia, who he has with second wife Jordyn Blum, were also present at the time, but it seems Harry’s presence went over the head of their nanny.

“It’s funny, our nanny was there and she came into the room with the kids and I said, ‘This is Harry,’ and it took her five or six minutes before she realised it was the prince of England. He’s a great guy,” Dave smiled.
