Taylor Swift has apologised to Nicki Minaj for causing a Twitter uproar.
The Anaconda rapper took to the micro-blogging site to slam the MTV VMAs for excluding her as a nominee in the Video of the Year category at next month’s ceremony on Tuesday July 21.
Taylor responded to Nicki’s initial tweets with her own message, writing: ‘@NICKIMINAJ I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..(sic)’.
Twitter, the public and the media then went into a frenzy, calling the exchange a ‘feud’.
But on Thursday July 23, Taylor took to the social media network to put an end to the controversy.
‘I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki. @NICKIMINAJ,’ Taylor wrote.
Nicki called attention to the way black women are depicted in the media, an intersectional feminist perspective, with her lamentation tweets on Tuesday, writing: ‘I’m not always confident. Just tired. Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it.’
But as Taylor noted in her tweet on Thursday, she thought Nicki’s comments were aimed directly toward her.
Nicki responded well to Taylor’s apology tweet.
‘That means so much Taylor, thank you. @taylorswift13,’ the rapper wrote, closing out the message with three heart emojis.
Nicki finalised the conversation by asking people to get over the drama.
A fan wrote to the 32-year-old hip hop star with the message: ‘I’m so glad Nic and Taylor made up!’
And Nicki responded with: ‘I’ve always loved her. Everyone makes mistakes. She gained so much more respect from me. Let’s move on.’
