Taylor Swift Is A Melbourne Cup Scratching

Taylor Swift has pulled out of her Australian promo tour and cancelled her appearance at the Melbourne Cup on November 5.

Mushroom Events cites “a recent change to Taylor Swift’s Asian promotional tour” for the cancellation although Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses claims their campaign following the announcement is the real reason for the cancellation.

The animal rights group has put pressure on Swift after six horses were put down after the race since 2013.

In a statement Michael Gudinski from Mushroom Events said, “Regrettably, Taylor is no longer able to make it to this year’s Melbourne Cup. Changes to her Asian promo schedule have made it logistically impossible for her to be here. To all of Taylor’s fans, we hope to see Taylor in Australia in 2020.”

VRC Chief Executive Officer Neil Wilson said, “The VRC has learned that Taylor Swift is now unable to make the trip to Australia and therefore cannot be with us on Melbourne Cup Day. Obviously, this is disappointing for everyone. We understand how important the pre-Cup entertainment is and we look forward to providing an update shortly.”

When news of Swift’s appearance at the Melbourne Cup was first announced ticket sales surged more than 2000% the following day. Taylor Swift fans paid the Melbourne Cup ticket price just to hear the two song performance.
