Taylor Swift’s new album ‘1989’ has outperformed her last album ‘Red’ in Australia with only three days of sales to become the fastest selling album of 2014.
‘1989’ has also outperformed Swift’s previous album ‘Red’.
‘1989’ sold 43,428 copies in only three days beating the ‘Red’ debut with 29,369 sales.
Swift also had an unusually high percentage of digital sales with ‘1989’ selling 25,737 digit copies to 17,691 CDs.
Australia usually releases new music on Friday whereas the USA release date is Tuesday. Because of the calibre of the Swift release the album was designated a global release date with every country releasing it on the same day in line with the US release date.
Swift’s 43,428 sales makes ‘1989’ the fastest selling album of 2014 beating Coldplay ‘Ghost Stories’ which sold 34,097 in its first week.
