Taylor Swift has announced the release of her first pop album.
The 24-year-old singer received several awards from the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music after releasing hits like I Knew You Were Trouble in recent years.
And during a Yahoo! livestream event co-sponsored by ABC News on Monday, Taylor told fans her new album, which is entitled 1989, will differentiate greatly from any of her previous offerings.
“For the record, this is my very first documented, official pop album,” she disclosed in front of a live studio audience.
Taylor admitted she felt the need to venture into a fresh creative domain while writing songs for 1989.
The songstress is very pleased with the sound she created.
“I woke up every single day not wanting but needing to make a new style of music that I had never made before,’ she shared. ‘We made the most sonically-cohesive album I’d ever made. We made my favourite album I’ve ever made.”
Taylor also debuted her new single, Shake It Off, which she co-wrote with Max Martin and Shellback.
She was born in 1989 and cites music from the Eighties as one of her greatest inspirations for the sound on her fifth studio album.
“I was listening to a lot of late ’80s pop.so being inspired by that, I started delving into the late ’80s,” the star said. “It was apparently a time of limitless potential. be who you want, wear what you want, do what you want. The idea of that was so inspiring to me.”
The cover art for the album sees the star posing in a Polaroid, with the initials ‘T.S.’ and ‘1989’ written at the bottom of the picture.
The LP is now available for pre-order and 1989 will officially reach fans October 27. Listeners can watch Taylor’s new music video for Shake It Off now on Vevo.
