Ted Nugent Shows Cancelled Following Controversy

Ted Nugent has had two more shows cancelled from his schedule due to his wild and often controversial comments.

The first happened earlier this week when his August 4 date at the Coeur d’Alene Casino due to what the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Council said was racist comments. On Friday, the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, WA followed suit but, this time, cancelling two dates on August 2 and 3.

The Puyallup Tribe, which runs the casino, said that they had received threats from community members pointing out Nugent’s “racist and hate-filled remarks.” Tribal council VP Lawrence W. LaPointe said “The first amendment gives people the right to free speech, but I think racism is intolerable and not acceptable here. We’ve been getting lots of complaints from the community and other organizations. I don’t want to take away his right to say what he wants to say, but we don’t need it here.”

While Nugent has not commented on the latest pulled shows, he did talk to Radio.com on Wednesday about the Iowa case, saying that he is the target of of an “army assigned to destroy Ted Nugent. To call me a racist is a clear act of desperation. Because everybody knows I’m not a racist! My [former] bass player Johnny Gunnel happens to be a black guy. My [former] bass player Marco Mendoza was born in Mexico! Are you kiddin’ me? I pay tribute to Martin Luther King in my songs, I’ve always said my music is a direct result of Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley, and all the black musical heroes of my life.”

There is an ongoing debate on whether Nugent’s comments are, indeed racist. Many of his barbs have been shot at President Obama whom he has called a “subhuman mongrel”, later retracting his comment while, maintaining that he believes the president was a “liar” who was shredding the constitution.
