Temptations’ Singer’s Wife Ordered Away From Husband Weeks Before His Death

A St. Louis newspaper is reporting that Temptations singer and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Dennis Edwards was allegedly abused by his wife in the weeks up to his death.

Edwards died last Thursday in a Chicago hospital from complications of meningitis although he had been in ill health for some time; however, it appears the days leading up to his passing had a few disturbing incidents.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch said an adult protective services investigator in Chicago filed papers to obtain a protection order to keep Edwards’ wife, Brenda, away from him after she allegedly held the singers head facedown on the bed.

Edwards was removed from the couple’s house on January 12 while the protection order was granted on January 18. Brenda was scheduled to be in court to answer the charges last Friday but the hearing was not needed after Dennis died the day before.

Brenda Edwards issued a statement last night (February 5), saying “I loved Dennis, and we were married for 18 years. I would have never done anything to harm him. These allegations are false and defamatory and will be proven as such. Until this is all over, I have no further comment.”

Chicago authorities have said that a criminal investigation is ongoing.
