Tex Perkins To Perform Johnny Cash Show In Decommissioned Prisons

by Paul Cashmere on July 5, 2016

in Live,News

Tex Perkins will present his Johnny Cash tribute show, based on Cash’s recorded performances from the Folsom and San Quentin prisons in the 60s in the US, in decommissioned prisons throughout Australia.

The Far From Folsom Tour, featuring Tex Perkins & The Tennessee Four with Rachel Tidd, will be performed at Sydney’s Cockatoo Island as well as the Port Arthur historic site in Port Arthur, Tasmania. The show will also play on prison grounds in Fremantle, Maitland, Adelaide, Bendigo and Melbourne.

Duane McDonald of Regional Touring, the company behind One Electric Day and the Red Hot Summer tour, spent the last 18 months developing the Far From Folsom Tour in association with Premier Artists.

The tour will commence 7 October, 2016 in Darwin.

“The idea of presenting these shows in decommissioned gaols has been a work in progress for the past 18 months. It is a very exciting project,” Duane McDonald tells Noise11.com. “From Fannie Bay in Darwin through to Old Adelaide Gaol, all of these venues have fantastic appeal and will be a memorable experience for patrons”.

The Far From Folsom show covers some of Johnny Cash’s best loved songs from his prison performances. Perkins has been covering the music of Johnny Cash since his earliest bands. Tex launched the first Far From Folsom show performance at The Old Parramatta Gaol in Sydney in 2015. It was planned for one night. He played three and sold 7000 tickets.
